UMD Global STEWARDS Fellows will have the opportunity to travel to Nepal or Tanzania for a short-term faculty-led study abroad program during the first two weeks of January 2025. The program is focused on how the country is implementing food-energy-water-climate-
The trips will include visits to partner sites at 1) Kathmandu University (KU), Dhulikhel Hospital, and Sanskriti Farms and Research Center in Nepal and 2) Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) and CultivAid in Tanzania, to learn about FEW nexus issues in these areas.
In Nepal, Fellows will engage with Kathmandu University (KU) and Sanskriti Farms and Research Center, and meet with rural community members, as well as government and NGO organizations. Part of the trip will include visiting Sanskriti Farms and Research Center, and staying in the farm’s homestay, which is nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas.
In Tanzania, trip participants will learn from our Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) and CultivAid partners who are working in sustainable, energy-efficient water reuse for food production, and from local off-grid communities in the development of low or no-energy water reuse systems for food crop irrigation.
The Winter Amp experience will also offer an opportunity to broaden cultural and world perspectives and to improve communication skills through teaching and outreach. Expenses for trip participants will be covered by the Global STEWARDS program.
Travel teams: Each team will consist of two faculty/staff with no more than 10 student fellows.
